HandBrake is a multi-threaded DVD to MPEG-4 ripper and converter. It can encode directly from DVDs (even encrypted ones) or from VIDEO_TS folders. AC3, LPCM, and MPEG audio tracks are supported.
At the moment of writing this tutorial, HandBrake Releases PPA hasn’t updated with Ubuntu 12.10 support. So I’m going to show you how to install HandBrake 0.9.8 from GetDeb.net.
To get started:
Now, HandBrake Releases PPA has updated for Ubuntu 12.10. You can add ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases ppa repository to Software Sources -> Other Software tab, then update and install handbrake. Or run following commands in terminal (Hit Ctrl+Alt+T) to add the ppa:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install handbrake-gtk
Once installed, search for and open handbrake from the Unity dash.
