Install Draftsight CAD in Ubuntu 12.10

Draftsight is a Professional-grade, free CAD software allows to professional CAD users, students and educators create, edit and view DWG files. It runs on Windows®, Mac® and Linux.

This simple and brief tutorial is going to show you how to install Draftsight in Ubuntu 12.10 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

To get started:

First download .DEB package for Draftsight CAD from the official website.

  • For 32-bit system (check 32-bit or 64-bit by Unity Dash-> System Monitor), hit Ctrl+Alt+T to open terminal, run this command to install dependencies package:
    sudo apt-get install libdirectfb-extra

    then double click to install the DEB package, or run this command:

    sudo dpkg -i ~/Downloads/draftSight.deb

  • For 64-bit system, install the required packages:
    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libdirectfb-extra libxcb-render-util0

    then install the DEB via:

    sudo dpkg --force-all -i ~/Downloads/draftSight.deb

    Proved and aproved in Ubuntu 12.10 64bits. Just as instructions say, not a single problem!

    Did as instructed above. The dependencies installed without issue, the .deb will not install even from Terminal.
    Got the below:

    Selecting previously unselected package dassault-systemes-draftsight.
    (Reading database … 211618 files and directories currently installed.)
    Unpacking dassault-systemes-draftsight (from …/Downloads/draftSight.deb) …
    access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
    access control disabled, clients can connect from any host
    access control disabled, clients can connect from any host

    After to install DraftSight –> Ubuntu Software Center updates everything and removes DraftSight of the Ubuntu.
